Planet of the Apes first burst onto the silver screen in 1968 and went on to spawn a science fiction media franchise. Weta Digital contributed visual effects to the latest films in the series: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes - all three released to critical acclaim. Now, Weta Workshop is proud to launch its own exclusive collectibles, celebrating 50 years of this iconic sci-fi franchise.
With Planet of the Apes came the discovery of a distant planet where apes dominated humankind. Some apes ruled with brutish military force, consumed by thoughts of conquest and power.
General Ursus is one such ape.
Ursus stands atop his mound and issues his battle cry to INVADE. The Gorilla army must march to the Forbidden Zone, wage war with the surviving humans, and claim the settlements and food supply for their own.
With territorial flag in-hand and a rifle raised above his head, General Ursus’ pose resembles that of the Statue of Liberty, whose shattered remains appear in the first film. Whilst the torch is a symbol of enlightenment, the General’s gun represents war and the destruction of humankind.
After all, according to Ursus, “the only good human is a dead human.”
The General Ursus 1:6 scale faux bronze statue is created to celebrate 50 years of The Planet of the Apes and pays tribute to an iconic character from the original film franchise.
