On the roof of Bag End grows an oak tree. It announces far and wide the home of Bilbo Baggins. The leaves on this tree are ever green, in equal measure because the tree wouldn't be the same with bare branches and because it's an artificial tree.
At least this is the case with the oak tree at the Hobbiton Movie Set in Matamata, New Zealand. As the movie magic requires the leaves to look and behave like real oak leaves, the 376,000 leaves on the tree in Matamata are made of vinyl. To make the leaves more durable, we chose to make our replicas out of leather in an oak leaf green colour.
Attached is an 8 mm silver jump ring, allowing you to turn it into a keyring, a pendant, a zip pull-tab or... let your imagination run free! You may want to attach it to one of Bilbo's acorn buttons? It will last you a lifetime. It was made in Wellington, New Zealand from supple vegetable tanned cowhide. This is a natural product with unique colour and texture variations. These leaves are very tactile, beautiful to look at and have that irresistible leather smell that cannot be faked.
It was created by the same talented artists and craftsmen who created leatherwork for the 3 Foot 7 art department on The Hobbit movies.
