El Espinazo del Diablo (2001), also known as The Devil's Backbone, tells the story of Carlos - a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War who then arrives at an ominous boys' orphanage. He discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets which he must uncover.

Weta, along with their partners at Sideshow Toys, created a highly limited 1:6 scale statue for the re-release of the DVD of Guillermo del Toro's "The Devil's Backbone" in 2004.
